Jeannine Herrington was joined by friends and community members on Thursday afternoon, April 25, to celebrate a ribbon cutting for the Breck Walker Bungalow, located at 1112 W. Walker St.

The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce hosted the event at the 1920s bungalow that Herrington has listed on Airbnb. The two-bedroom house is available to rent by the night, week or month, Herrington said at the ribbon cutting.

The house was built in the 1920s, and Herrington has decorated it with vintage furniture and knick-knacks, as well as fluffy blankets and comfortable pillows. There are also books, including a Breckenridge history book, and board games.

Herrington purchased the house from Tommy Wimberley, and while she was researching the house’s history, she discovered that the property — but not the house — had once been owned by Breckenridge Stephens Walker, historically known as the first baby born in the newly established Stephens County and City of Breckenridge. His father, E. L. Walker, was elected county judge in Stephens County’s first election in 1876, and Breck Walker was born in 1877.

Playing on that history, she named it the Breck Walker Bungalow.

Earlier this month, the Texas Forts Trail hosted a trip around the area, and the group stopped in Breckenridge, visiting several locations, including the Breck Walker Bungalow. Click here to read the Breckenridge Texan’s article about that event and to see more pictures from the bungalow.
