Upcoming AgriLife Extension programs focus on trees, ponds and community issues

The Stephens County AgriLife Extension Office has several upcoming activities, including a pond management program, a tree pests/diseases program and a community futures forum.

Tree Pest and Diseases Program

The Stephens County AgriLife Extension Office and the Texas Forest Service will offer a free program about Tree Pests and Diseases at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the local Extension office, 2622 U.S. Highway 180 East (at the intersection of Highway 180 and State Highway 67).

Texas A&M Forest Service Specialist Kimberlee Peterson will present the program.

Pond and Fish Management

The Stephens County AgriLife Extension Office and the MT7 Ranch will host a Pond and Fish Management program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the ranch, located at 1189 Private Road 1802 in Stephens County.

The key speaker will be Bob Lusk, owner and editor of Pond Boss magazine. There will also be a shock boat demonstration with Cody Butler, MT7 wildlife biologist. Will Farmer with Living Water Specialties will discuss aquatic vegetation control, and  MT7 Ranch Manager Ty Bartoskewitz will talk about the MT7’s approach to pond design with.

The cost will be $20 per person and will include a fish fry lunch and 1 CEU. Reservations must be made by April 23 by calling 254-559-2313 or going online to https://stephens.agrilife.org/programs/.

Texas Community Futures Forum

Every five years, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service hosts the Texas Community Futures Forum to address local issues facing the general public in their areas. The Stephens County Extension Office will host a Community Futures Forum from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the Extension office, 2622 U.S. Highway 180 East (at the intersection of Highway 180 and State Highway 67).

The forum will be free, and lunch will be provided.

The event will allow citizens to identify and prioritize issues within the community. The input will help direct the local Extension office as they plan programs for the next several years.
