Dwain Brannan
Dwain Brannan, age 76, of Breckenridge, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024. A memorial reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Morehart Mortuary.
Kenneth Dwain Brannan was born March 18, 1948, in Breckenridge, Texas, to Elvis Kenneth Brannan and Audine “Billie” Jones Brannan. He attended Breckenridge High School until his junior year when his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and he finished high school there. He later attended McMurry University back in Texas. After graduation, Dwain was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. On August 14, 1978, he married Martha Williams in Abilene and they enjoyed almost 46 years of marriage. Dwain worked in the oilfield and then in the construction industry for many years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was also an active member of the Roughneck Bible Class and the VFW. Dwain adored his children and grandchildren and was lovingly known as Pops to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Johnny Jones Brannan.
Dwain is survived by his wife, Martha Brannan of Breckenridge; his children, Robert Dax Brannan and wife Aly Garcia of Austin, Devan Jones Brannan of Breckenridge, Rachel Brannan Evetts and husband Jason of Kingsbury, and Johnny Ray McCowan and wife Cindy of College Station; two grandchildren, Titus Dax Brannan and Zara Brynn Brannan; and a host of other relatives.

The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
