Breckenridge Chamber hosting several events in upcoming weeks: Spring Fling, carnival, Frontier Days
By Carla McKeown/Breckenridge Texan
The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is busy working on three events for the community that will happen within the next five weeks — Spring Fling, an 18-ride carnival and the annual Frontier Days.
Spring Fling
Spring Fling is an annual shopping event hosted by Chamber businesses, similar to Mingle and Jingle that takes place before Christmas. This year, Spring Fling will be from 3 to 9 p.m. this Friday, April 5.
During the event, participating businesses will be open late and offer special sales. Additionally, each of the Spring Fling businesses will offer a giveaway that shoppers can sign up for.
New this year will be a concert in Foundation Park, on the corner of Breckenridge Avenue and Walker Street, by Kyle Fambro. He is scheduled to perform from 5 to 8 p.m.
Carnival
The Chamber has arranged for the Pride of Texas Shows to come to Breckenridge April 18-21 for the “Boomtown Bonanza Carnival.”
The 18-ride carnival will be set up in the three acres between Higginbotham Bartlett and the Dollar Tree/Tractor Supply shopping center, behind McDonald’s. Property owner Tommy Wimberley has donated the use of the land, and the businesses in the area will allow parking in their lots for those attending the carnival, Chamber Executive Director Yuri Huntington said.
The carnival will include rides, midway games and concessions. Tickets will be sold at the carnival.
Frontier Days
Breckenridge’s annual Frontier Days celebration will take place at the Trade Barn in the City Park on May 3 and 4, bringing back some traditional events, adding some new activities and making some changes to others. The vendor booths are set to open at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, and activities will continue most of the day on Saturday, May 4.
New to Frontier Days will be a beer garden in the food booth area just north of the Trade Barn, near the intersection of East Hullum Street and Old Caddo Road. The beer garden will be hosted by Soggy Dog Wine and Brew.
Some of the food booths/trucks will be serving crawfish, popcorn, hot dogs, chili dogs, Frito pie, corn-in-a-cup, nachos, pickles, cotton candy, tacos, Dippin’ Dots, drinks and more. The food booths will be set up around the Trade Barn, and tables and chairs will be available inside the Trade Barn for attendees to sit and eat.
Six chuckwagons have signed up to participate in the annual chuckwagon cook-off on Saturday, May 4. Scheduled to set up camp at Frontier Days are Rafter Z Wagon from Stephenville, JW Chuckwagon from Weatherford, Veal Ranch chuckwagon from Breckenridge, Shadow Peak chuckwagon from Weatherford, R Bar D chuckwagon from Canton and the Tarrant County Cowboy Church chuckwagon. Tickets for the chuckwagon lunch cost $20 each and will be on sale soon.
There’s been a change to the annual singing competition…it’s now a talent show and is open to more than just singers. The name has been changed from Breckenridge Idol to Breck’s Got Talent. More details about auditions will be coming up soon.
A car show, a bake-off and a disc golf tournament are scheduled for May 4 with on-site registration. More details to come.
Set up just west of the Trade Barn will be a Kids Zone with games, swings, slides, bounce houses and a mini-roller coaster for kids. Entrance to the Kid Zone will cost $5 each, and wrist bands will be available for purchase at the Chamber of Commerce’s booth set up at the park office, located at the corner of East Hullum Street and Dunnigan Avenue.
The 2024 Miss Breckenridge Pageant will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the Trade Barn. It is open to Breckenridge girls age newborn to 19 (19-year-olds must still be in school). The non-refundable entry fee is $55 per girl and must be submitted by the registration deadline, Friday, April 19. Entry forms may be picked up and dropped off at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce office, 100 E. Elm St., or at Halo Cosmetics, 806 W. Walker St.
Other Frontier Days activities include cow patty bingo, stick horse races, old west shootout, karaoke, concert and more.
The Breckenridge Texan will have more details on Frontier Days in the upcoming weeks.

Help support the Breckenridge Texan’s local news coverage mission
The Breckenridge Texan, a non-profit news outlet serving Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, has launched its annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign, running through Dec. 31, 2024.
As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
In addition to regular news coverage, the Breckenridge Texan also offers:
A weekly newsletter that delivers a roundup of recent stories via email every Monday
Photo galleries from local events
A Calendar of Events, which lists upcoming community activities
Local obituaries
And more
Donations can be made through the Breckenridge Texan website’s donate page, the NewsMatch campaign page, or by mail to Breckenridge Texan, P.O. Box 1228, Breckenridge, Texas 76424.
