Pam Ezzell, a nurse practitioner at Breckenridge Medical Center, was named Employee of the Year for 2023, and Bobby Thompson, director of information technology, was named Director of the Year for 2023 during a Stephens Memorial Hospital ceremony on Jan. 29.

Ezzell first came to SMH in 1997 with the Stephens County EMS. She has worked as needed in many departments, including the laboratory, medical records, ambulatory care services, emergency, and med-surge and has even been spotted washing a dish or two on occasion.

She worked her way from EMT to LVN to RN and is now serving as a nurse practitioner in the newly created Walk-In Clinic, located at Breckenridge Medical Center.

“Pam is adored by the patients, loved and trusted by her coworkers and a true asset to Stephens Memorial and Breckenridge Medical Center,” SMH CEO Brian Roland said as he presented the award to Pam.

When accepting the award, Ezzell thanked her co-workers and said, “I am proud to say that I love my job at BMC, I love my co-workers, and I love my patients. Thank you all for being a part of my journey.”

The Employee of the Year Award is given annually by SMH to one employee who exemplifies the hospitals core values of professionalism, quality, compassion, patient satisfaction, respect, accountability, integrity and teamwork. This award was voted on by Ezzell’s co-workers and peers.

Director of the Year Bobby Thompson joined SMH in 2004 as the purchasing and material manager and moved into his current role in 2005.

“Sometimes people do not understand the importance of computer technology knowledge in a rural health care organization, that, and the ability to work with all facets of computer understanding and personalities, takes a very special person to manage and operate,” Roland said when presenting the award to Thompson. “Bobby is one in a million; he truly shows all the values of our hospital district.”

The Director of the Year Award is given annually by the Senior Staff at SMH to a director who exemplifies the company’s core values of professionalism, quality, compassion, patient satisfaction, respect, accountability, integrity and teamwork.
