The Picketville Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will host a free Texas lineage genealogy workshop next month.

The workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. Paul Methodist Church’s Pendleton Fellowship Hall, 1504 E. Elm St. in Breckenridge.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their iPads, laptops, iPhones, etc. for researching their family history. Genealogy helpers will be on hand to help.

Call Judy Wolfe at 817-307-3934 to secure a reservation or for more information. The workshop will be limited to 15 people.

The DRT is a women’s organization established in 1891 to “perpetuate the memory and spirit of those who achieved and maintained the independence of Texas.” Membership is open to women who meet one of several requirements, including to have an ancestor who lived in Texas prior to Feb. 19, 1846. On that date, almost two months after Texas was formally recognized as the 28th state of the United States, in a ceremony in front of the Texas Capitol, the Lone Star flag of the Republic of Texas was lowered and the flag of the United States was raised above it. Texas President Anson Jones proclaimed “the Republic of Texas is no more.”
