With Breckenridge’s National Theatre stage set for a casual atmosphere, four area musicians treated a near-capacity crowd to a concert featuring their original and/or favorite tunes on Saturday night, Jan. 13.
As part of its 2023-24 Performance Series, the National Theatre hosted its first Singer/Songwriter Song Swap. Breckenridge musician Kyle Fambro started the show off with “Long Haul,” a song he wrote for his wife.
The concept of a “song swap” is relatively new to Breckenridge, and Fambro explained the concept to the audience. A song swap is basically a group of musicians who get together and take turns playing songs. Often, they play songs they’ve written; at the Breckenridge show, the musicians also played some of their favorite songs, written by other people.
The concert included:
- Kyle Fambro grew up in Breckenridge and serves as a board member of the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center and the Breckenridge Convention & Visitors Bureau, and as an official with the Stephens County Junior Livestock Show, as well as manager at Pate’s Hardware.
- Jared McLane also grew up in Breckenridge and teaches science and coaches at Breckenridge High School.
- Finis Smith lives and ranches in rural Stephens County, models for Cavenders and other clothing brands, and performs with his band around the state.
- Ransom Rhodes grew up in Fort Worth and has been playing the guitar since he was 13 and put together his first band when he was a high school sophomore. He performs around the state while also running his building and concrete business.
The next concert in the Performance Series will be singer-songwriter Jarrod Morris from Decatur, who will perform on March 8. More details to come.
