The Thanksgiving  holidays got off to a running start for the students and staff at Breckenridge’s South Elementary when the school held its annual Turkey Trot race in the neighborhood around the school on Thursday, Nov. 16.

The race is organized as a fun way to add a fitness activity into the school year.

Not only do the students run the route, but teachers, staff, parents, grandparents and others participate in the event. Additionally, local first responders, including the Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and Sacred Cross EMS help with blocking the streets and ensuring everyone’s safety. This year’s winners were:

  • Second Place: Rhody Stewart
  • Third Place: Knox Escalon

Breckenridge schools are out for the holiday this week and will return to classes on Monday, Nov. 27.
