With a week of practice and one local scrimmage behind them, the Breckenridge Buckaroos football team is looking forward the next two scrimmages, as well as Meet the Bucks.

The public is invited to Buckaroo Stadium for Meet the Bucks on Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m. The event will give the community a chance to meet all of the football players, cross country runners and volleyball athletes, as well as the coaches, cheer team and the BHS marching band. Attendees also will have the opportunity to participate in the new drone video of everyone gathered at Buckaroo Stadium with JumboTron in full operation. The video will be placed on the front of the new Breckenridge Independent School District website.

This week, the varsity and junior varsity football players will travel to Fort Worth for a scrimmage against Castleberry and Gainesville high schools at W.O. Barnes Memorial Stadium,  located on the Castleberry High School campus, 4801 Blackstone Dr., in Fort Worth. Click here for the Google Maps link to the stadium. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m., and entry will be free of charge with donations being accepted for the Texas High School Coaches Association.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, the varsity football team will travel to Mineral Wells to scrimmage against the Rams. Please note that the original 2023 football schedule showed the varsity scrimmage to be here in Breckenridge, but that has been corrected. The game will be played in Mineral Wells. See the updated schedule below.

The first regular game of the season will be Aug. 25 in Jacksboro, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The first home game of the Buckaroos’ 2023 season will be on Sept. 1 against the Childress High School Bobcats.

Media Day/Watermelon Scrimmage

The JV and Varsity Buckaroos scrimmaged on Saturday, Aug. 5, in the annual Watermelon Scrimmage. The athletes and their families had pictures taken before the scrimmage and had watermelon afterwards.

After the watermelon was served, the Lady Bucks Volleyball teams scrimmaged against Albany.

Calvin Best, BISD Journalism and Web Media teacher, said that the students will photo-edit all of the photos that were taken on Saturday, and the photos will be posted on the Breckenridge Buckaroo Athletics Facebook page free of charge for you. Additionally, the photo files will be at ABC Printing and Office Supplies, 139 E. Walker St., for anyone who needs a picture for the football program. That way, parents can have access to a specific picture for the annual football program/booklet that is available for purchase on the first home game of the season. It will take a couple of weeks or perhaps a bit longer to get the photos in good order and posted online, Best said.
