Stephens County Tax Office to be closed July 31-Aug.3
The Stephens County Tax Office, located in the Courthouse, will be closed from Monday, July 31, through Thursday, Aug. 3.
The commissioners court requested that all four members of the staff attend the Election Law Seminar in Austin this year.
“There are so very many changes in the law following this and the last legislative session and we must be properly informed, educated and trained in order to deliver to you Elections which are transparent and trustworthy and and that provide the utmost confidence to you, the voters of Stephens County,” Stephens County Tax Assessor/Elections Administrator Christie Latham said in a Facebook post. “This is a very busy time for our office on the property tax side, as well, as I am in currently in the throes of trying to work through the Truth In Taxation process and deliver to the entities all of the calculated tax rates that they will need in order to decide on and adopt each of their own tax rates for the upcoming 2023 tax season.”
The Tax Office staff asks the public to be patient with their office as they return on Friday, Aug. 4, as they will be dealing with the election information, as well as taking care of the county’s automobile registration and title transfer needs, as well as all boat and motor registrations and title transfers.
