The Breckenridge Independent School District has announced details about the upcoming school year, including start times for all campuses, Meet the Teacher dates, school supply lists, and other important data. The first day of school is scheduled for Aug. 8, and registration for new and returning students is now open.

Important Upcoming Dates

July 18: New Student Registration opportunity at each campus. (See the section below for more details on registering.)
Aug. 1: BHS schedule pickup – Students going into the 11th and 12th grades can pick up their schedules at Breckenridge High School between 9 a.m. and noon Aug. 1.
Aug. 2: BHS schedule pickup – Students going into the 9th and 10th grades can pick up their schedules at Breckenridge High School between 9 a.m. and noon Aug. 2.
Aug. 2: Bronco Roundup for incoming 6th graders only will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Breckenridge Junior High School.
Aug. 2: Incoming 7th and 8th graders can pick up their schedules between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Breckenridge Junior High School.
Aug. 3: Meet the Teacher – East Elementary and South Elementary will have their Meet the Teacher nights from 5 to 7 p.m. at each school on Thursday, Aug. 3. Students will receive their homeroom teacher assignments and their schedules for the year.

2023-24 Schedule

The BISD Board of Trustees approved a four-day week for the 2023-24 school year with students having most Fridays off and staff having many Fridays off.

The first day of school for students will be Tuesday, Aug. 8. That first week, the students will attend school on Friday. The following two weeks, Aug. 14-18 and Aug. 21-25, students and staff will attend all five days. Sept. 1 will be the first Friday off for the students with the staff scheduled for a staff development day. After that, each month will feature all Fridays off for students and most Fridays off for staff. Each month, the staff will have at least one workshop, staff development or accelerated instruction day. On the accelerated instruction day, some students may also need to attend to received additional academic preparation.

The 2023-24 calendar includes a full week off for Thanksgiving and two weeks for the Christmas Break, as well as a week off in March for Spring Break. The calendar shows one additional Monday holiday, Labor Day on Sept. 4. See the calendar below for more details.

With the new school calendar, the start and end times for the school days have also changed. This past week, BISD announced the following school day times for each campus:

East Elementary: 7:50 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.
South Elementary: 8 a.m. to 4:05 p.m.
BJHS: 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
BHS: 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

2023-24 Breckenridge Independent School District Calendar

New and Returning Student Registration

All students — new and returning — need to be registered for the 2023-24 school year.

To register a returning student, a parent/guardian needs to sign into their Skyward Family Access account and open the tab that says “23-24 Returning Student Registration.” The required registration forms are available under that tab.

Parents or guardians of students new to the district need to go the Breckenridge ISD website and fill out the New Student forms (click here for the webpage). If you are unable to complete the online enrollment forms, on-campus enrollment opportunities will be held on July 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the BISD campuses.
