Patricia Ann Sanders, better known as “Tootsie,” passed away in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, May 29, 2023. She was 84. Her funeral service in the Melton-Kitchens Chapel of Memories will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, with Pastor Danny Brown officiating. Her interment at the Breckenridge Cemetery will immediately follow.

Patricia was born in Breckenridge, Texas, on July 6, 1938. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, then became a licensed barber. She was a God-fearing woman of strong faith and was a devoted, long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she sang in the church’s choir. She also worked at the Burch Hotel in Breckenridge, followed by a 46-year career at Stephens Memorial Hospital, from which she retired in 2016.

Tootsie was a kind and caring person to all she loved, including being a devoted wife to her late husband, Demetrius Sanders. She would always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was a strong woman who was raised by strong women: Ruby Flint King, Lillie Spicer, and Mrs. Basey, whom she loved and was loved by dearly. She faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Patricia would often tell stories of her childhood friends she held fond memories of and would recount times with her sister-cousin, Mamie, in Los Angeles, California, who would always refer to her as “Patrick.”

To each and every member of her family, Patricia was a source of inspiration. Her impact on her family will never be forgotten, and she will forever be missed by everyone who loved her and whose lives she touched.

Patricia was preceded in death by her mothers and fathers, Ruby, A.B., and Tom and Lillie Spicer, as well as her husband, Demetrius. She is survived by her five children, Ricardo Deon Sanders of Irving, Texas, Shari Dee Sanders of Abilene, Texas, Tony Armando Sanders of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Thesia Ann Sanders of Arlington, Texas, and Lisa Ann Williams of Arlington; along with eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
