BISD to offers free meals for children June 5-22
Local children will be able to have breakfast and lunch for free for several days this month through the Breckenridge Independent School District’s summer meal program.
The school district will serve the meals Mondays through Thursdays June 5-22 at the East Elementary Cafeteria. Breakfast will be from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All meals will be dine-in only and will be free to children ages 1-18 years.
According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, in Texas more than 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger. When the school year ends, children often lose access to consistent, nutritious school meals. Programs such as the BISD summer meals program help ensure that local children have access to food during the summer.
