Second annual Buckaroo Band Poker Run set to rock Hubbard Creek Lake, Saturday, May 20
The second annual Buckaroo Band Poker Run is gearing up to take place on Saturday, May 20, at Hubbard Creek Lake.
The all-day event event offers those with boats and personal water craft (such as Jet Skis) a chance to compete for up to $2,500 in cash and prizes while cruising around Hubbard Creek Lake. And for those not participating in the Poker Run, there will be lots of family-friendly activities, including performances by the BHS Band and others, live and silent auctions and more. The event is hosted by the Pride of Breckenridge Band Boosters and the Ron Hoover RV & Marine’s Breckenridge location, at 6512 U.S. Highway 180 West.
This year’s fundraiser for Breckenridge High School’s Buckaroo Band will feature live performances by Kyle Fambro and the Davis Brothers Band, as well as the Buckaroo Band and the Buckaroo Drumline. There will also be silent and live auctions. Additionally, the Halftime Heroes Pit Crew (Band dads) will be selling barbecue. All proceeds will benefit the Buckaroo Band Program.
The Poker Run will involve participants on boats or personal watercraft traveling around Hubbard Creek Lake and stopping at designated checkpoints. At each checkpoint, they will pick up a poker chip, which they will exchange for a hand of cards back at Ron Hoover.
At the end, the winning poker hands earn prizes. First place will win $1,500 in cash or prizes; second place will get $750 in cash or prizes; and the “Dead Last” prize of $250 in cash or prizes will go to the worst poker hand.
The registration fees is $50 for each poker hand. Cash, checks or credit cards are accepted. Participants can register for the Poker Run at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, at Ron Hoover RV & Marine-Breckenridge or with any Buckaroo Band Student or Band Booster member. Click here for a registration form you can print and fill out.
The fundraiser will include a silent, online auction, as well as a live auction. Some of the items up for bid include a boxing glove signed by Mike Tyson, three multi-day vacation trips to resorts in Mexico, several coolers, a variety of signed sports and movie memorabilia. Check out the Band Boosters Facebook page for more information on the silent auction.
The event is scheduled to kick off at about noon with lunch for sale, followed by a performance by the BHS Band and the opening ceremonies, including a parade of the participating boats. At about 4 p.m. the music performances are scheduled to begin, and the poker winners should be announced at about 7 p.m. The live auction will begin immediately following the announcement of the winners.
