The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce has added the 2023 Breckenridge Idol competition to the Frontier Days lineup. The deadline to register for the contest is Wednesday, April 12.

The singing competition will be the first one in four years, after the COVID-19 pandemic led to cancelations in 2020 and 2021 and scheduling conflicts prevented a contest last year.

This year’s Breck Idol is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Breckenridge City Park’s pavilion.

The Breckenridge McDonald’s restaurant, owned by David and Carol Whealy, is sponsoring the event. Cash prizes will include $1,000 for first place, $350 for second place, and $150 for third place.

The contest will be open to anyone age 12 and older who is not currently or previously signed to a record label. Click here to download the application, which must be filled out and returned to the Chamber of Commerce office, 100 E. Elm St., no later than Wednesday, April 12. Applications also are available at the Chamber office; Blast Dance Company, 218 W. Williams St.; or at Texas State Technical College, 415 N. Breckenridge Ave.

Auditions will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, April 14, at Blast Dance Company, 218 W. Williams St. Entrants must provide their own music (live or over the phone) and should have at least two songs prepared. A PA system will be available, but all other equipment must be provided by the contestant.
