Kenneth Loyde Latham was born in Woodson on May 26, 1943, to parents Hilmon and Lucile Latham. After graduating high school, he attended North Texas State University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. While in Denton, he met and married Valene Shaw. The couple settled in Plano, Texas, and started their family. Kenneth was employed by Texas Instruments before venturing into real estate, during which he opened his own real estate business.
In the late 1970s, he decided to move his family back to Throckmorton County. Once back home, he entered the farming and ranching business and later transitioned into the oil and gas industry as an independent operator. He was very involved in his community, especially with 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America), the latter of which he was honored to serve as an Honorary Chapter Farmer.
He retired in his hometown of Woodson, where he was under the constant care of a wonderful community, his church, the local Meals on Wheels organization, along with a multitude of high school kids — all of whom he enjoyed and loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilmon and Lucile; sisters, Keitha Latham, Guan Blackerby, and Remona Latham; grandson, Kevin Brock Latham; brothers, TJ Latham, Donald Latham, Cruz Latham, and Powell Latham; and sister-in-law, Eva Boyd Latham. He is survived by his sons, Kevin Latham (Barbara) of Abilene, Texas, Dow Latham (Karen) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Wes Latham (Kacy) of Munday, Texas; the mother of his children, Valene Latham of Throckmorton, Texas; brothers, Zane Latham (Diane) of Clyde, Texas, and Quien Latham (Suzy) of Reedsville, Indiana; brother-in-law, Earl Tate of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law, Pam Latham of Clyde, and Martha Loggains (Chuck) of Breckenridge, Texas; along with eight grandchildren, Brianna, Collin, Keeley, Madison, Cooper, Kyson, Luke, and Mackenzie; and two great-grandchildren.
