Breckenridge Texan fundraiser in final stretch, needs $1,595 to meet goal
With five days left in the Breckenridge Texan’s annual fundraising campaign, we need an additional $1,595 to meet our 2022 goal of $4,000 in donations.
Each year, the Breckenridge Texan participates in a program called NewsMatch to help make sure our local supporters get the most from their donations. For every dollar that is donated to the Breckenridge Texan, the NewsMatch program matches it with an equal donation, doubling the funds. And, this year, if we can raise $4,000 by Dec. 31, we will get an additional match, which means every donation will be tripled.
Launched in the fall of 2017, the Breckenridge Texan provides news and information about Breckenridge and Stephens County on our website, www.breckenridgetexan.com, at no charge. We also have a Facebook page, Twitter page and a free weekly e-newsletter that our readers can subscribe to. The online news site is funded through ad sales and donations from our readers.
As a community news site, the Breckenridge Texan covers everything from Buckaroo football to county and city government meetings, from kindergarten Christmas programs to new business openings. Although we can’t be everywhere, we try to be as many places as possible.
The Breckenridge Texan is a non-profit organization, and all of the money raised goes directly to the operation of the digital newspaper. The funds are used to pay for internet access, website hosting, general office supplies and services, payments to freelancers and mileage expenses for our reporters and photographers.
“We manage a tight budget in order to offer a quality news product without being a burden on the community,” Breckenridge Texan Publisher Tony Pilkington said. “That means every dollar we receive is needed, appreciated and put to good use.”
The Breckenridge Texan is a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN), which is our fiscal sponsor as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. That means, donations are tax deductible.

So far, during this NewsMatch fundraising campaign, we’ve raised $2,405. We greatly appreciate everyone who has already donated. If we can raise that additional $1,595, we can get a total of $12,000, all of which will be used to provide news to the Breckenridge community.
