After spending the past few months raising funds, the Breckenridge Woman’s Forum presented a check to the Breckenridge Library to help with children’s programs.

Last week, Elizabeth Power with the Woman’s Forum gave Heather Schkade, the library director, a check for $700, and Schkade said she has been researching programs that the library can offer to the community’s kids.

“I have some ideas,” Schkade said after thanking Power and the Woman’s Forum. “I’ve been looking at the programs that are offered. I’d like one that is specifically for kids and one that is for everyone, including kids.”

The library already offers a few children’s programs, but this money will be used for something new, Schkade said.

“I don’t think people understand that these programs cost money,” Power said. “We are really excited to be able to help out this way.”

Power said that for their 2022-2023 season, which started in September, the Woman’s Forum members chose two local organizations to donate money to  — the library and the Swenson Memorial Museum. They set a goal of $500 for the library and surpassed that goal by 40 percent with their Fall fundraisers. When their winter/spring meetings start up in 2023, they’ll be raising money for the museum.

Schkade said anyone who would like to make a monetary donation may drop off or mail a check to: Breckenridge Library, 209 N. Breckenridge Ave., Breckenridge, TX 76424. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The library’s computers automatically shut off at 5 p.m. each day. For more information, call the library at 254-559-5505.

The Breckenridge Texan is in the midst of our annual fundraising campaign with the national organization NewsMatch. Donations made through the end of December will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by NewsMatch, and, if we meet our goal of $4,000 raised, we’ll get an additional match. That will triple every donation given to the Breckenridge Texan. The Breckenridge Texan is a non-profit news website covering Stephens County and Breckenridge, Texas, that depends on donations, as well as advertising, to continue our work. We appreciate your contributions. To make a donation, click here.
