The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce has rescheduled the community Christmas Parade due to the weather forecast for this Saturday, which includes a 90 percent chance of rain, including thunderstorms.

Yuri Huntington, Chamber executive director, said in an email that the parade, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 10, has been rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 15. She said the decision was made in order to keep everyone safe and dry and to protect the band’s equipment and the PA system.

Additionally, the Cookies and Cocoa event at Texas State Technical College, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been canceled, as well.

On Thursday, the parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the corner of Miller and Walker streets and will proceed east down Walker Street. The parade entries will be judged before the parade, and the winners will be announced during the parade.

After the parade, Santa will be at Foundation Park next to the community Christmas tree for pictures. Additionally, there will be booths set up in the open area across the street from the Stephens County Courthouse.

The Breckenridge Texan is in the midst of our annual fundraising campaign with the national organization NewsMatch. Donations made through the end of December will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, by NewsMatch, and, if we meet our goal of $4,000 raised, we’ll get an additional match. That will triple every donation given to the Breckenridge Texan. The Breckenridge Texan is a non-profit news website covering Stephens County and Breckenridge, Texas, that depends on donations, as well as advertising, to continue our work.
