Rodgers named All-District Offensive MVP; 21 Buckaroos receive honors

Twenty-one Buckaroo varsity football players received a total of 33 postseason honors when the District 3-3A Division I All-District were announced after all of the district’s teams were eliminated from the playoffs. Breckenridge High School received one superlative, nine First Team honors, nine Second Team honors, and 14 Honorable Mentions.

BHS senior Anson Rodgers was named the district’s Offensive MVP on the superlatives list, which also included five Jim Ned players, two Vernon players and one from Iowa Park, plus the Jim Ned staff. Rodgers also received Academic All-District honors.

Senior Jerry Lawson had the distinction of being All-District on First Team Offense, as a fullback, and on First Team Defense, as a defensive lineman. Junior Alexis Franco earned two First Team Defense All-District awards – as a safety and a punter – and a Second Team award on offense as a wide receiver.

Senior Adrian Ruiz was named to the First Team Offense as a wide receiver and to the Second Team Defense as a cornerback. Senior Adler Loftis was named to the First Team Offense as an offensive lineman and to the Second Team Defense as a defensive lineman. Senior Isaiah Lehr was named to the First Team Offense as an offensive lineman and to the Second Team Defense as a defensive lineman. Junior Caiden Marin was named to the First Team Offense as a tight end and to the Second Team Defense as an inside linebacker.

Zeke Castillo was named to the First Team Defense as an inside linebacker and earned Academic All-District honors. Also on the Academic All-District list is Senior Keaton Ragle, student assistant.

Junior Camden Escalon was named to the Second Team Offense as a quarterback and to the Second Team Defense as a cornerback. Other Second Team Offense Buckaroos include sophomore Sawyer Wimberley, running back, and senior Nando Beccerra, offensive lineman.

Earning Offense Honorable Mentions were seniors Erick Williamson, offensive line;  Nate Aguilar, offensive line;  and Marco Jaramillo, snapper; junior Brilee Bernal, wide receiver; and sophomores AJ Franco, running back, and Sawyer Wimberley, kicker.

Earning Defense Honorable Mentions were seniors Lane Castillo, outside linebacker, Marco Jaramillo, defensive lineman; juniors Bryson Herring, outside linebacker, and Hunter Eaton, outside linebacker; and sophomore Tim Newell, defensive lineman.

District-wide, the 3-3A All-District superlatives included:

  • MVP: Troy Doran, Jim Ned
  • Offensive MVP (shared): Anson Rodgers, Breckenridge, and Gage Stanaland, Jim Ned
  • Defensive MVP: Tanner Hussman, Jim Ned
  • Lineman of the Year: Isaiah Sanchez, Vernon
  • Utility: CJ Miser, Iowa Park
  • Offensive Newcomer: Barrett Browning, Jim Ned
  • Defense Newcomer: Trey Hicks, Jim Ned
  • Special Teams Player of the Year: Javier Perez: Vernon
  • Staff of the Year: Jim Ned
