Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and sister in Christ, Jeanette Eileen Lucas, 71, from Breckenridge, Texas, went home to her Lord on Friday, August 5, 2022. Jeanette was the first baby born in the new hospital in Corydon, Indiana, on June 17, 1951, to Edgar Elzy and Georgia Ann Miller.

Jeanette grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from DuPont Manual High School in 1969. She went on to graduate at Spencerian College with a Computer Programming degree. On October 19, 1969, she met the love of her life, Oliver Lucas, and accepted his marriage proposal on their second date. They were married on March 14, 1970, and celebrated 52 years together. Together they had two children, Tracey and Brian. She was a dedicated stay at home mother for many years. Her love for her children and grandchildren could not be measured. They were her life and she treasured her time with her kids and then most importantly, her grandchildren. Eight years ago she moved in to help with her young grandson after he’d been in the hospital too many times. The thought of not being able to help him from so far away brought her back to Texas. Her family was her pride and joy and she lived for them. Jeanette was also a faithful and steadfast Navy wife. She kept the household running and helped coordinate the many moves that military families endure.

Jeanette was very active at her home churches throughout the years. She was instrumental in the many roles of her church including secretary, deaconess, and the coordinator to numerous functions. She was always very busy behind the scenes of the many events and at the end of the day she was always found in the kitchen tidying up. Throughout the years, Jeanette was also a fiercely dedicated friend. She made friends everywhere she lived and left behind a legacy of sisterhood to those dear to her. She would keep up with her friends through Facebook and loved to share their special moments. Her friendship was deep and she relished in the joy of the events of her chosen sisters.

As a young child Jeanette stayed with her grandparents during the week and grew a special relationship with her own grandmother. She would often tell stories about picking vegetables in her grandmother’s garden and catching so many fish with her grandfather that she grew up to dislike the taste. She never gave up fishing and loved going on her father’s boat with him and her uncles. Her home in Tennessee was equipped with a stocked pond. Neighbor children knew that she had a welcoming home and that they were loved and cared for in her presence. Jeanette was kind and loving and will be truly missed by so many.

She has been reunited in heaven with her mother, Georgia Miller; father, Edgar Miller, Jr.; her grandparents, William and Ruth Paris, Edgar Miller, Sr., and Violet Cunningham; and brother, Anthony Miller.

She left behind her husband of 52 years, Oliver Lucas; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Dirk Gilman; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Shana Lucas; seven grandchildren, Chase Cohen, Kaylee Kalilimoku, Addison London, Bailey Gilman, Blake Gilman, Alice Lucas and Tegan Lucas; her sister, Debra Johnson; her many nieces and nephews; and too many friends to count.

Proverbs 31: 1-31
28: Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her; 29: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” 30: Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised 31: Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her works praise her in the gates.

Services will be held at West Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3099 W. Union Rd, Millington, TN 38053, on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at 3 p.m.
