Breckenridge ISD shifts in to Back-to-School mode
By Carla McKeown/Breckenridge Texan
With the first day of school for Breckenridge Independent School District less than two weeks away, the back-to-school calendar is already busy. Classes are scheduled to start on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
New student registration can be done online; click here to access the registration forms. For anyone with questions or who needs assistance with the registration process, in-person new student registration will take place at all four BISD campuses today, Thursday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Returning students also need to pre-register online for the school year. To begin the registration process, returning students or their parents need to log in to their Skyward Family Access account. Open the tab “2022-2023 Returning Student.” Required registration forms are available under that tab, and all of the forms need to be fully completed in order for registration to be finalized for the 2022-2023 school year.
For more information about registering, call Lisa Wright at the BISD Central Office at 254-522-9600, extension 6005, or by email at lisa.wright@breckenridgeisd.org.
Buckaroo Bash
Next week, BISD will host the annual Buckaroo Bash come-and-go event from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, in the BHS Auxiliary Gym (the small gym in the BISD Athletic Facility).
Parents and students attending Buckaroo Bash can pick up student schedules, get the names of homeroom teachers, and ask transportation and food service questions. In order to receive your student’s schedule and/or homeroom teacher’s name, all online registration requirements must be completed by August 4. Schedules and/or homeroom teachers will not be changed at Buckaroo Bash. The event is not for registration.
BISD Bus Enrollment Forms will need to be completed for every bus rider in your home.
For more information, call Prairie Freeman, Chief Learning Officer, at 254-522-9600, extension 6004; Lisa Wright, PEIMS Coordinator, 254-522-9600, extension 6005; Mark Nelson, Director of Food Services, 254-522-9600, extension 6007; or Mitch Brewer, Director of Maintenance and Transportation, 254-212-3011, extension 8002.
Meet the Teacher
East and South Elementary schools will have Meet the Teacher events on Monday, Aug. 15.
Students and parents at East Elementary (Pre-K through Second Grade) will have a chance to Meet the Teacher from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Students and parents can meet their teachers and visit the classrooms, as well as drop off school supplies. Then, on Wednesday, Aug. 17, the first day of school, the school will host a “BooHoo Breakfast” for kindergarten parents (only kinder parents) from 7:30 a.m. to about 8 a.m.
South Elementary’s Meet the Teacher will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15. Parents can take their child’s school supplies and leave them with the homeroom teacher during Meet the Teacher.
School Supplies
As usual, each grade level has a specific school supply list. Click the following links for the lists from East Elementary, South Elementary and Breckenridge Junior High:

Tax-free Holiday Weekend
Speaking of school supplies….many items that fall into that category will be tax-free this weekend, Friday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 7, thanks to the State of Texas’ annual Sales Tax Holiday.
State law exempts sales tax on qualified items — such as clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks — priced below $100, saving shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.
Click here for more information about the Sales Tax Holiday, including detailed lists of what is and is not eligible for the exemption.
