Breckenridge native Liz Sloan McGovern and her husband, Jared McGovern — aka Momma Liz and Farmer Jared — will host an hour-long children’s program at the Woodson Town Hall every second Thursday of the month from 5 to 6 p.m.

The program will be a mixture of interactive children’s songs and story time. The McGoverns have a 2-year-old daughter, Maybelle, and the program is intended for ages 1-7, but all are welcome to join the fun, they say.

The first Children’s Songs and Stories program will be Aug. 11. The program will be free, but donations will be accepted for Woodson’s new community center.

Liz and Jared are a part of the “hillbilly swing” group the Urban Pioneers, who have performed in Breckenridge several times. Now that Maybelle is old enough, she has joined them on-stage at some of their performances. At home, they’ve learned children’s songs to entertain her with and now are eager to give back to the community with the children’s program.

Maybelle helps out her mom, Liz Sloan McGovern, on the fiddle. Liz and her husband, Jared McGovern, will host a monthly Children’s Songs and Stories program in Woodson, beginning Aug. 11. (Courtesy photo)
