Stephens Memorial Hospital celebrates National Hospital Week
Stephens Memorial Hospital honored its employees last week for National Hospital Week.
Throughout the week, the staff was treated to breakfast and/or lunch provided by various businesses and organizations. Additionally, employees had a chance to win prizes during the week.
On Thursday, May 12, Rev. Otho Noggle performed a “Blessing of the Hands” ceremony for some SMH employees. As they gathered in a circle at the hospital’s helicopter landing pad, Noggle took a small bottle of olive oil and walked around to each person in the circle and poured a small amount of the oil on their hands and rubbed it in. He then closed the ceremony with a prayer. During the service, he stood inside the circle and talked about the role the olive tree in the Bible and the history of the healing properties of olive oil. The week celebrating hospitals wrapped up on Friday with a cook-out for the community. Hospital staff cooked and served hot dogs and hamburgers on the front lawn of SMH.
