Local DAR members honor Good Citizens Award recipients
At their March meeting, the Lee’s Legion of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored three area students who were chosen by their schools to be recipients of the organization’s Good Citizens Award.
Lisa Echols with the DAR said that as part of the program, the students wrote essays on the topic of “Our American Heritage and our Responsibility for Preserving It!” They were to answer the focus question of: “How do the qualities of a good citizen (dependability, service, leadership and patriotism) help support our nation?”
The three receiving the Good Citizens Award were Savanah Fade of Breckenridge, Johnnie Hise of Moran and Destiny Adams of Cisco. They each read their essays to the club members and others gathered for the event and then received a certificate, a Good Citizen card, a lapel pin and a gift card.
The girls were introduced by Carolyn Vick Kennedy, the local organization’s citizenship chairman.
Members of the DAR are descendants of those who served in the American Revolution. They often participate in projects that focus on historic preservation, patriotism, and education.
