Stephens County District Attorney releases list of plea deals for last quarter of 2021
Stephens County District Attorney Dee Peavy’s office recently released the following list of plea deals that were made in the 90th Judicial District Court in October, November and December.
October 2021
- Edward Enrique Lopez, 37, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Burglary of Habitation and was sentenced to 18 months confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – State Jail Division (TDCJ-SJ), and to pay $2,000 fine and court costs.
- Derek Ray Barton, 40, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to five years community supervision, and to pay $750 fine and court costs.
- Joshua Max Brown, 29, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to five years community supervision, and to pay $500 fine, restitution, and court costs.
- Matthew Wade Johnson, 32, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Evading Arrest or Detention with Vehicle and was sentenced to five years community supervision, and to pay $2,500 fine and court costs.
- Brandi Sue Fincher, 41, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to three years community supervision, and to pay $750 fine, restitution, and court costs.
November 2021
- Paxton Lee Sullivan, 31, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Capital Murder of Multiple People and was sentenced to Life confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Institutional Division (TDCJ-ID), and to pay court costs.attor
- Jimmy Ray Earl Merrifield, 46, Gainesville, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver Four Grams or More but Less Than 200 Grams – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 10 years confinement in TDCJ-ID, and to pay $1,500 fine, restitution, and court costs.
December 2021
- Sammy Joe Galvan, 35, Lubbock, pleaded guilty to the offense Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 12 months confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – State Jail Division (TDCJ-SJ), and to pay $1,500 fine and court costs.
- Levi Joseph Landon, 32, Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance Less Than One Gram – Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 12 months confinement in TDCJ-SJ, and to pay $500 fine, restitution, and court costs.

The Breckenridge Texan, a non-profit news outlet serving Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, has launched its annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign, running through Dec. 31, 2024.
As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
