Surrounded by friends, family and co-workers, veteran Breckenridge Police Officer Noah Gray was promoted to sergeant during a ceremony at the Stephens County Law Enforcement Center on Monday, April 26.

Gray, who returned to the Breckenridge Police Department last April after serving four years as a code enforcement officer for the Breckenridge Fire Department, had served 12 years before that as a Breckenridge police officer.

Police Chief Bacel Cantrell said Gray had really stepped up since returning to the department last year, from covering shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic to working as a training officer to help train the new officers who were recently hired.

“We were shorthanded, and during COVID, in June and July, we ran half-staff. Noah went from working two days on a day shift and going to night shift and working four days on nights and cutting back down to days,” Cantrell said. “He was just one of those guys that was reliable and dependable to cover those shifts and keep things in line.”

Gray said he hopes to use his new position as sergeant and his experience as a police officer to help the newer police officers on the force to get where they need to be as police officers.

“It’s exciting, and I’m really looking forward to it,” Gray said. “Like the Chief said, we’ve got a lot of young guys, we’ve got a lot good people on the department and I’m just really excited to looking forward to helping out, and getting them where they need to be.”
