A two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 180 sent three people to the hospital via helicopter and backed up traffic in both directions for over an hour on Tuesday afternoon, March 30.

The wreck occurred just west of FM 3201 South. According to unofficial reports at the scene, it was a head-on collision between a white pickup with two occupants and a black SUV with one occupant.

Two air ambulances landed on the highway, and the third helicopter arrived later at the Bob Clark Landing parking lot on the west end of the Mile-Long Bridge over Hubbard Creek Reservoir. Breckenridge Fire Chief Calvin Chaney said that one person injured in the wreck was transported to the landing via ambulance, which was met by the helicopter, so that the highway could be opened up to traffic.

Responding to the accident were two AMR ambulances, three Air Evac helicopters, as well as emergency responders with the Breckenridge Fire Department, Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, the Breckenridge Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Shackelford County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Transportation and others.

Texas DPS is conducting the investigation and has not yet released additional information about the wreck.
