Stephens County residents who are looking to help out those in need this holiday season have several opportunities to donate gifts, food and money.

Check out the following list:

Angel Tree of Stephens County

The Angel Tree of Stephens County program is operated by the organization All His Children. To find out if there are still gifts that need to be purchased for local children, check at Breckenridge Pizza Company at 1906 W. Walker, Bethany Baptist Church, or First National Bank. The contact person for the program is Will Thompson.

GIFT DRIVE

Wallace Insurance Agency, located at 126 W. Walker, is sponsoring its inaugural Christmas Gift Drive this year for Breckenridge and Albany families that are in need.

Jessica Holmes with Wallace Insurance said the agency is working closely with local schools to identify children who are in need. The agency will accept new toys, gift cards, cash donations, clothing, shoes, hats, and gloves. because the children need more than just toys, Holmes said.

Items may be dropped off at the following places: Wallace Insurance Agency in Breckenridge, Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce office, East Elementary School, and the Albany Chamber of Commerce. The deadline to drop off items will be Friday, Dec. 18.

Stockings for Senior Citizens

Stephens Memorial Hospital is sponsoring a Stockings for Senior Citizens program this year. Organizers are asking local citizens to fill a stocking for a home-bound senior or nursing home resident. Those who can’t fill a stocking themselves may donate funds to purchase a filled stocking through the SMH Gift Shop.

The stockings will be delivered to Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center and to the home-bound seniors who receive meals through the hospital’s senior meal program.

Some ideas for gifts for the stockings include lap blankets, socks, hats, scarves, gloves, pens, activity books, lotion, body wash, and non-perishable, pre-packaged snacks.

The hospital would like to have the stockings by Friday, Dec. 18. For more information, call Chris Curtis at 254-550-2241.

Toys for Tots

There are several boxes for Toys for Tots around town, and Doug Beaty will collect those toys and deliver them to children in need. On Friday, Dec. 18, the Breckenridge Cricket Wireless store, 1206 W. Walker, will host a Toys for Tots event from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. that will include Santa, popcorn and cookies. Those who donate to the Toys for Tots program will be eligible for a store discount..

Additionally, Canyon Road Barn and Grill will offer a free peach cobbler or bread pudding dessert to anyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots program through Friday, Dec. 18.
