Breckenridge’s only nursing home, Villa Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center, has at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 among the staff members, Stephens County Judge Michael Roach reported Thursday evening, Oct. 15.

The nursing home will be posting information about the case(s) on its website and will report the case(s) to the health department, as required by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Roach said. The state has strict rules for reporting positive cases and for the protocols that employees must follow if they have tested positive.

Roach said that as he understands the regulations, the entire facility will be tested for COVID-19. He said the results of the tests should be available in a couple of days. Roach said, to his knowledge, this is the first positive case at the facility.

The news of the nursing home case(s) comes on the same day as the county’s highest single-day number of active COVID-19 cases.

Additionally, the county judge is currently quarantined after coming into contact recently with someone who tested positive for the disease caused by the new coronavirus. He said he has started to have symptoms of COVID-19 this evening and will get tested as soon as possible. In the meantime, he is following the state and federal guidelines for quarantining in order to protect others.
