Stephens County posts highest single-day number of COVID-19 cases since pandemic began

Stephens County has had the largest single-day number of positive COVID-19 cases reported since the pandemic began months ago. Stephens Memorial Hospital reported 13 new cases today, giving the county 46 active cases of the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, the Breckenridge Independent School District reported that four students tested positive today. The students include  a 12th grade student and an 11th grade student who were present on the high school campus on Wednesday, Oct. 14; a sixth grade student who was present on the junior high campus on Wednesday, Oct. 14; and an eighth grade student who was present on the high school campus on Tuesday, Oct. 13. That brings the current active cases in BISD to 12, seven cases among students and five cases among staff members.

Local health authorities will host a live update on the situation tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 16, which will be broadcast live on the Stephens County, Texas Facebook page. The Breckenridge Texan will provide more details on the update as soon as the information is available.
