The annual  Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Golf Tournament, held in memory of Johnny Bates, gives golfers a chance to hit the links while helping to raise funds for Breckenridge High School scholarships. The golf tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Breckenridge Country Club.

The tournament is an 18-hole scramble, and teams will be divided into two golfers each. Tee times will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The entry fee will be $100 for each team of two golfers. Breakfast or lunch will be provided, depending on the tee time. Several door prizes will be awarded, and all participants will receive an event golf towel.

Teams may register online at: 2020 Golf Tournament Registration

When they register, golfers have an opportunity to sign up for several raffles. They also can choose to donate their prize winnings back to the scholarship fund.

This past year, the tournament provided six $1,000 scholarships to Breckenridge High School graduating seniors.

Additionally, the Chamber is once again hosting a Ball Drop contest, which gives non-golfers, as well as golfers, a chance to win some money at the tournament. For $5 per chance, participants can purchase a ticket with a specific golf ball number on it. The day of the event, after the afternoon play has ended, all of the purchased numbered golf balls will be added to a large bucket, hoisted into the air on a bucket truck, and then thrown over the side. The ball that lands in the hole first — or the closest to the hole if none land in the hole — will be the winner of a $500 Visa Gift Card donated by Resist-ALL Electric LLC.

For more information, visit the Chamber at 100 E. Elm St. or call at 254-559-2301.
