Local government and health officials to provide COVID-19 update, discuss Governor’s Executive Order today

Stephens County Judge Michael Roach and Breckenridge Mayor Bob Sims, along with local health officials, will hold a COVID-19 update at 4 p.m. today, Friday, June 26. The event will be broadcast live on local radio station KLXK 93.5 and live-streamed on the County’s Facebook page.

The officials will update county residents on the COVID-19 situation in Stephens County and Breckenridge, as well as recommend new preventative measures to help prevent the spread of the virus in the county.

They will also discuss the local implications of a new Executive Order by Gov. Greg Abbott that places limits on certain business and services.

According to a news release from the Governor’s office, the order includes:

  • All bars and similar establishments that receive more than 51 percent of their gross receipts from the sale of alcoholic beverages are required to close at 12 p.m. today. These businesses may remain open for delivery and take-out, including for alcoholic beverages, as authorized by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
  • Restaurants may remain open for dine-in service, but at a capacity not to exceed 50 percent of total listed indoor occupancy, beginning Monday, June 29, 2020.
  • Rafting and tubing businesses must close.
  • Outdoor gatherings of 100 or more people must be approved by local government, with certain exceptions.
