The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce executive board met today and decided to cancel this year’s Frontier Days, including Breck Idol and all of the other activities associated with the annual event, on the advice of the City of Breckenridge and Stephens County, due to the threat of the coronavirus disease, COVID-19.

“Should the situation improve, the board will meet as soon as possible to try to get something else rescheduled,” Chamber Executive Director Carrie Holson.

The Chamber has already canceled the Spring Fling shopping event that had been scheduled for Friday, March 20.

The next event on the Chamber’s calendar is a membership luncheon in the park during the summer, but Holson said it’s too early to make a decision about that.

“One of the things that the Chamber is  greatly concerned about is the impact that this is going to have on our local businesses,” she said. “In light of that, we are encouraging our businesses to think outside the box, be creative. We’re trying to get people to think of things, like offering curbside service, offering delivery, online availability. And, then, we’re encouraging the community to support those efforts. Because it’s going to be hard for our local businesses if they are at a standstill with no foot-traffic for an extended period of time.”

The executive board wants to encourage everyone in the community to “support local” as much as possible, she said.
