BISD to host community involvement session Jan. 13 for superintendent search
The Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Trustees with assistance from the Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services has begun work to select a new superintendent for the district. As a part of that process, the TASB search consultant will host a Community Involvement Session from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan, 13, in the media room of the BISD Athletic and Fine Arts Facility (the “new gym”).
The session is part of a process for the district and the search consultants to meet with various groups in the community to develop a profile of the leadership qualities desired in the new superintendent.
To provide residents and employees an opportunity to offer their input, a number of meetings are being scheduled. The consultants and BISD administrators encourage members of the community to participate in one of the planned opportunities.
The session on Monday, Jan. 13, will be divided into three sections for specific groups of people:
- Any District Employee: 4 – 5 p.m.
- Open to the Public: 5 – 6 p.m.
- Open to the Public: 6 – 7 p.m.
The meeting is expected to last approximately one hour per group.
For those who cannot attend the meeting, a questionnaire with the same questions the TASB consultant will ask is also available online at https://surveys.tasb.org/s3/breckenridge-leadership-survey. Click that link any time before midnight Saturday, Jan. 25, to provide your responses online.
Applications for the superintendent position are due by midnight Feb. 18. Interviews are scheduled for March, and the Board of Trustees expects to hire the new superintendent by the end of April.

Help support the Breckenridge Texan’s local news coverage mission
The Breckenridge Texan, a non-profit news outlet serving Breckenridge and Stephens County, Texas, has launched its annual NewsMatch fundraising campaign, running through Dec. 31, 2024.
As a non-profit news outlet, the Breckenridge Texan depends on donations, in addition to ad sales, to fund daily operations, including website costs, freelance writers, and basic office expenses. The organization aims to raise $4,000, which could be tripled to $12,000 through various matching programs, including the NewsMatch program and the Rural Partner Fund, which is supported by several major foundations.
Founded in 2017 by journalists Tony Pilkington and Carla McKeown, the Breckenridge Texan provides daily local news coverage, weekly newsletters, photo galleries, a community calendar, and obituaries. The outlet serves both local residents and people outside the community seeking information about Breckenridge and Stephens County, including potential new residents and businesses. They chose the non-profit structure to maintain local control of news coverage while minimizing the financial burden on the community.
In addition to regular news coverage, the Breckenridge Texan also offers:
A weekly newsletter that delivers a roundup of recent stories via email every Monday
Photo galleries from local events
A Calendar of Events, which lists upcoming community activities
