Breckenridge Lions Club Basketball Tournament starts today

The 2019 Lions Club Tournament begins today, Friday, Dec. 13, in the Breckenridge Independent School District’s Athletic and Fine Arts Center (aka “the big gym”) with play wrapping up on Saturday, Dec. 14.

There will be eight girls teams and six boys teams participating in the tournament.

The girls teams will include: Breckenridge, Albany, Eastland, Dublin, Stamford, Munday, Merkel JV and San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy. The boys teams will include Breckenridge, Cisco, Hawley, Abilene High JV, Abilene Christian and San Angelo Texas Leadership Charter Academy.

The tournament will begin at 8:30 Friday morning with Albany and Dublin facing off in the main gym. Breckenridge’s first appearance in the tournament will be at 11:30 a.m. when the Lady Bucks take on Albany in the main gym. The Buckaroo boys will play Hawley at 1 p.m. in the main gym.

Proceeds from the Lions Club Tournament will benefit Lions Club scholarships. For the complete schedules, see the brackets below.

The Lady Bucks are 12-2 for the season and have won both the Baird Tournament in November and the Dublin Tournament last week. They will start district games next week when the Jacksboro Tigrettes come to Breckenridge on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The varsity game is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.

The Buckaroos are 6-1 for the season, losing their only game so far to Stephenville in the Dublin Tournament last week. They are scheduled to play Goldthwaite (home) and Coleman (away) next week and then participate in the Eula Tournament after Christmas. The boys district games will start in 2020 when the Tolar Rattlers come to Breckenridge on Jan. 3.
