The second annual Homemade Cornbread and Beans Contest lost some of its contestants on Saturday morning, Oct. 19,  when some of the local firefighters had to cancel their plans to enter the cook-off and go battle the big wildfire south of Breckenridge. By the time they were finished fighting the fire, the competition was over and Leslie Harrison had been named the winner.

The judges deemed Harrison’s cornbread and beans to be the best of the contest, and those voting in the People’s Choice portion of the cook-off agreed. Competing against Harrison were Andy McCuistion and Lisa Duggan.

The event took place during the monthly Breck Trade Days in the Breckenridge City Park. Serving as judges for the contest were Dick and Connie Garcia, Genoa and Martha Goad and Jolene Buhmann.
