Breckenridge firefighters responded to a house fire in the 900 block of North Breckenridge Avenue just shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31.

Breckenridge police also responded to the scene and closed the two southbound lanes of the street to traffic because of emergency equipment in the roadway.

“We got a call from one of the neighbors, and they said this house was on fire,” Fire Chief Calvin Chaney said. “We got here within a minute and a half, and we had flames pushing out all the windows and doors.”

Chaney said nobody was in the house at the time of the fire and there were no injuries that they know of. He said that, as far as he knows, someone lives in the house and it had working electrical and water service.

“Right now, the fire is under investigation,” Chaney said. “We suspect it’s going to be suspicious. I’ve already called the state Fire Marshal and (he) will be here shortly.”

In addition to the Breckenridge Fire Department and police emergency crews, Sacred Cross EMS service also responded to the scene.
