The Rotary Club of Breckenridge and Carter BloodCare will be hosting the final blood drive of the three-day Battle of the Badges from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at First National Bank.

The third annual Breckenridge Battle of the Badges Blood Drive will wrap up today, Saturday, June 8. The project allows blood donors to vote for one of three local first-responder groups — the Breckenridge Fire Department, the Breckenridge Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office — when they give blood.

For the past two days, blood donors have been dropping their votes in the ballot box, stating whether their donation honors the firefighters, police officers or sheriff’s deputies. Today is the last day to cast your vote and donate blood for the project. Whichever team has the most votes wins the competition. The Breckenridge Fire Department has won for the past two years.

To honor the winning agency, Carter BloodCare will provide a plaque to the winning chief in recognition for bringing the community together in the spirit of saving lives.

All donors will get a t-shirt and a coupon for half-off Texas Ranger tickets. Last year, the community donated 43 units of blood during the campaign.
