North and East Elementary schools provide students with books for summer reading

When the students of Breckenridge’s East and North elementaries finished the school year this week, they didn’t leave empty handed. Both schools participated in a summer reading program that provided each child with 10-12 books of their own.
East Elementary Principal Barbara Collinsworth said that the schools worked with the American Reading Company. Each student received a book bag and was allowed to pick out their own books from a selection of books in their grade level. The books are theirs to keep.
“What’s great about this is that they’re self-selected — the kids get to choose their own books,” she said.
Included in the book bags was a summer reading log. If the students read their books and fill out the reading log, then bring it back to school in the fall, they will be entered to win a $50 Walmart gift card.
