Annual Health Fair slated for Saturday morning
The annual Stephens County Health Fair will take place from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center, 301 S. Rose St., a different location than it has been in recent years. In conjunction with the Health Fair, a fundraiser walk/run is also scheduled for Saturday morning.
The Health Fair will feature more than 40 vendors, as well as flu shots for $15 and free lab tests. The lab tests, sponsored by Stephens Memorial Hospital, will include glucose, bun creatinine, sodium, potassium, CO2 Chloride, Cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, HDL, Hgb A1C and PSA (for men over 40). Anyone planning to have the free lab test should not eat or drink after midnight (Friday night/Saturday morning) with the exception of plain coffee, plain tea or water.
In addition to the inside vendor booths, the Health Fair also will feature local ambulances and other emergency vehicles, a medical helicopter and the Open Door’s mobile unit, which offers pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and other services.
Those attending the Health Fair will be eligible to win a variety of door prizes, including t-shirts and a handmade steamer trunk donated by Marty and Glenda Dover.
Fun Run/Walk
Along with the Health Fair, a fundraising run/walk event will begin with pre-registration at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at First Baptist Church. Participants also may register in advance the the Breckenridge Medical Center, 101 S. Hartford St.
The event will include a kids run, which will begin at 8 a.m., and a 5K/10K run/walk that kicks off at 8:30 a.m. The entry fees will be $10 for the kids run and $15 for the 5K/10K run/walk. Funds raised with benefit “Team for Kids.”
