Breckenridge man killed in Panhandle crash

A Breckenridge man was killed in a one-vehicle crash in the Texas Panhandle on Monday, according to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to the news release, DPS was called to the scene of the wreck on Interstate 40 in Wheeler County. At approximately 7:47 p.m., James Jenson, 36, of Breckenridge, was driving a 2017 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer east on I-40 in the city limits of Shamrock, east of Amarillo. Jenson veered off the roadway into the south barrow ditch and collided into the concrete pillars of the U.S. Highway 83 overpass bridge, the DPS report stated. The truck tractor caught fire and was destroyed.

Jenson was pronounced dead at the scene by Wheeler County Justice of the Peace Rick Walden.

The road conditions were dry and no other vehicles were involved. The reason for the crash, which remains under investigation, is unknown, according to the news release.
