With the decorations all around town and events scheduled throughout the week, Breckenridge is gearing up for Breckenridge High School’s 2018 Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 28.

The Homecoming varsity football game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Buckaroo Stadium against the Dublin Lions, but a variety of activities are scheduled all week long.

Dress-up Days

To get everyone in the Homecoming spirit, the local school kids will be dressing up in themes this week. On Monday, it was “Mathletes vs. Athletes” at the high school/junior high and “Favorite Athlete or Sport” at the elementary schools. Today is “Tourist Tuesday” at all of the schools. Wednesday will be “Twinsday” at all of the schools. Thursday will be “Heroes vs. Villains” at the high school/junior high and “Stellar Superheroes” at the elementary schools. The week will wrap up with “Green Out” on Friday at the high school and junior high, and “Buckaroo Spirit Day/Cowboy” at the elementaries.

Homecoming Parade

The 2018 Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 26, with a start time of 6:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Buckaroo Empire,” and participants are encouraged by the parade organizers to dress in Roman attire.

The theme of this year’s BHS Homecoming is “Buckaroo Empire.”

Road construction and weather may greatly affect this year’s parade. According to the Facebook page Breckenridge Homecoming Parade 2018, if there is just light rain at the time, the parade will go on. However, heavier rain or thunderstorms may result in cancellation. As of Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service is predicting a 60 percent chance of rain during the day on Wednesday, dropping down to a 20 percent chance in the nighttime hours. The Weather Channel is showing a much lower chance of rain at parade time.

The road construction around the high school and junior high means that the traditional float staging area cannot be used. The parade organizers are working on a map detailing the staging areas and lineup for the parade. Lineup is scheduled to begin about 5:30 p.m.

A community pep rally is scheduled after the parade beside the Stephens County Courthouse.

Game Day

On Friday, Sept. 28, Homecoming activities will start with a pep rally at 10 a.m. in the “BISD Athletic and Fine Arts Center” – aka the new gym. The pep rally will include students from North and South Elementary schools, as well as Breckenridge Junior High School and BHS, alumni and visitors.

At about 1:15 p.m. Friday, the BHS Varsity Cheerleaders and the Pride of Breckenridge-Buckaroo Marching Band will take the pep rally on the road and visit East Elementary and the local nursing home.

The varsity football game against Dublin is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Buckaroo Stadium. Homecoming Court activities, including the crowning of the BHS 2018 Homecoming Queen, will take place during halftime. The BHS marching band will perform at 7 p.m. before the game, in order to allow time for the Homecoming Court activities.
