The Texas Department of Transportation recently released an update on the road construction projects underway on U.S. Highways 183 and 180.

Crews completed the second portion of the U.S. 183 project last week. A final overlay will be applied to the road surface, and sidewalks will soon be added to the stretch of roadway.  TxDOT expects to complete the project in about three months, weather permitting.

The operation on U.S. 180 has encountered some unexpected utility work which is being addressed, Lisa Tipton, a TxDOT public information officer in Brownwood, reported. Crews are working in other areas and are working toward completion of final overlay to the road surface, installation of sidewalks, drives, signs, topsoil and grass, along with some ditch work.  The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.

As work progresses, there will be no traffic shift, but there will be daily lane closures within the work zone, according to the update.  One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open throughout the project.

Utility work will begin soon on U.S. 183 North from U.S. 180 to just past Loop 287, in preparation for a future TxDOT project.

TxDOT encourages drivers to heed all warning signs within the construction work zones and offers some simple steps to take when driving through the areas: slow down, pay attention, avoid distractions such as cell phones, be patient, and plan ahead.
