When Breckenridge students return to school next fall, they will pay a little more to eat at school, following the Breckenridge Independent School District Board of Trustees’ vote on Monday evening to increase the cost of meals for the 2018-2019 academic year.

They approved a 10-cent increase for students for breakfast and lunch, and a 15-cent increase for adults for both breakfast and lunch.

Under the new rates, breakfast for junior high and high school students will cost $2, and for staff and visitors, it will cost $2.45. The new rates for lunch will be $3 for elementary students, $3.10 for junior high and high school students, and $3.65 for staff and visitors. Elementary students will continue to get a free breakfast.

In a memo to trustees, BISD Director of Food Services Mark Nelson said he recommended the increase based on the advice of the district’s consulting firm, Walker Quality Services, as well as on the current cost of providing meals and anticipated industry increases.

High school and junior high paving projects
Trustee also approved a bid for $181,504 from Raydon, Inc., in Breckenridge for asphalt surface rehab at the junior high and high school.

Work covered in the bid includes correcting drainage and asphalt in the basketball/gathering area behind the junior high school; asphalt on the street through the campus of the junior high and high school; repair patches west of the football stadium; surface seal all stadium asphalt and roadway to west; asphalt and restripe north and south sectors the east parking lots; and surface seal and restripe the east and west sectors of the south parking lot.
