Open Door luncheon launches Baby Bottle Boomerang
Pastors and representatives from several local churches were on hand Wednesday at The Open Door Pregnancy and Family Resource Center for the Baby Bottle Boomerang fundraiser luncheon.
During the luncheon, attendees were given baby bottles, along with other materials to be used during the fundraising event, which begins Sunday, Jan. 21, and ends on Sunday, Feb, 18.
The bottles, which will be distributed to local residents through the churches during the fundraiser, are to be filled with coins, bills and checks, which will be donated to the Open Door. The center offers services to local women and families, including free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, assistance and more. There are Open Door offices in Breckenridge and Cisco.
Jeannie Gann, Center Director for the Breckenridge Open Door office, said if churchgoers fill a bottle during the first couple of weeks of the fundraiser, they can turn the money into their church and continue collecting in the newly emptied baby bottles.
“That’s the boomerang part of it,” she said. “It’s just boomeranging it out and keeping it circulating for three weeks.”
During the luncheon, Gann explained to the group how the fundraiser works, what the center’s goals are and how the money raised will be used to help the community. The BBB is one of two fundraisers the center holds each year.
She said last year’s fundraiser raised almost $8,000. “This year’s goal is $10,000, but I would love to see $12,000,” Gann said.
