Friends, family and community members gathered in the Breckenridge City Park Saturday morning, Oct. 21, to honor and remember Sloan Everett, who died in a March 2017 wildfire in the Texas Panhandle.

In the photo above, bicyclists take off from the park in the inaugural Sloan Everett Memorial Bike Ride. About 40 riders participated, choosing from a variety of routes.

Before the bike ride, a group of family and friends attended a tree dedication ceremony beside the Disc Golf Pavilion in the park. The tree is marked with an engraved stone honoring Everett, who was a civic and community leader. Pictured below, Marshall Hooper, Jim Everett, Katharine Meuli, Sarah Fowler and Rebecca Everett read the inscription on the back of the dedication stone.
