Several local residents attended public meeting hosted by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, to address concerns about an air quality permit application by GCC Sun City Materials LLC for a temporary concrete batch plant in southeastern Stephens County.

In a split vote this afternoon, the Stephens County Commissioners Court voted 4 to 1 to approve an agreement that will dramatically change the landscape and skyline of the southeastern portion of the county for years to come with the installation of dozens of wind turbines.

The Stephens County Commissioners Court will hold the public hearing at 9 a.m. March 11 in the District Courtroom in the courthouse, 200 W. Walker St.

The Comptroller’s Office says the project will not be an economic benefit to the State of Texas.

The BISD school board must make a decision about tax abatements for the proposed wind farm by the end of the year.

Public hearing set at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in Bailey Auditorium.
