Sacred Cross EMS claimed its first win in the Breckenridge Rotary Club’s annual Battle of the Badges blood drive contest this summer, edging out local law enforcement and fire departments in the ambulance service’s first time to participate in the friendly competition.

Over the past couple of months, the Stephens County Humane Society and the City of Breckenridge’s Animal Shelter have been dealing with dozens of dogs that have been rescued and/or seized from two different locations in the community.

The annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, hosted by the Breckenridge Rotary Club, is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, and Friday, June 6, and this year’s event includes a new competitor: Sacred Cross EMS.

Local children and their families learned about bicycle and water safety at the Summer Safety Event, hosted by the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, on Friday, April 25.

The City of Breckenridge honored Katey Turnbull with a Distinguished Service Award for her work following a shooting that happened last November.

Logan Scott Bills, age 25, was arraigned on a First Degree Murder charge by Stephens County Judge Michael Roach at the courthouse this afternoon, Monday, Nov. 25. Bills is being held on a $400,000 bond.

The shooting took place at a residence on South Stoker Avenue Friday afternoon.
