Filing closes for city, school and hospital board elections; several offices to have contested races
The filing window for candidates to run for office on the Breckenridge City Commission, school board and hospital board closed on Friday, Feb. 13, and several of the races are contested. The election will be on May 2 with Early Voting to take place April 20-28.
With today’s temperatures remaining below freezing and many streets still iced over, the winter storm that moved into the area on Friday, continues to have an impact on Breckenridge and Stephens County.

The offices of the City of Breckenridge, Stephens County and Breckenridge Independent School District will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, and all local school classes have been canceled for Monday, due to road conditions caused by the winter storm that entered the area on Friday, Jan. 23.

Breckenridge Independent School District voters approved a $39 million bond Tuesday to build a new elementary school, according to the preliminary results released by the Stephens County Elections Office on Tuesday evening, Nov. 4.
Tuesday, Nov. 4, is Election Day in Texas, and the local ballot will include a proposed bond to build a new elementary school in Breckenridge, as well as 17 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution.
